All the small things...

So I decided to take a break from my normal onslaught of pictures, home videos, and the occasional documentary to post some thoughts. Some of you may know that I used to be an AVID Simpsons fan and when I think about it I'm kind of sad that I let my love slip away, but part of slip was caused by the change in focus of the show. Most people may not believe this, but one of the things I loved the most about the Simpsons was the morals that it taught. Yes, Homer was a dufus, Bart was a trouble maker, and all the other flaws of the characters on the show, but when push came to shove, Homer loved Marge and they would both do anything for their kids. I believe that focus slowly shifted to Homer's crazy antics, but that's another topic.

So why do I bring this up? Well, I am also an AVID lover of quotes, but my favorite quote of all time is actually from a Simpsons episode. The quick summary of the story is that Mr. Burns comes over for dinner and when he leaves upset he promises Homer that he will ensure that his "dreams will go unfulfilled". That night, Homer is understandably worried/upset, and that's when the greatest quote in the history of mankind happens as Marge says, "Homer, when a man's biggest dreams include seconds on dessert, occasional snuggling and sleeping in til noon on weekends, no one man can destroy them." How can you not feel good after hearing that?

Jenni always pokes fun at how much I love this quote, but every time I'm upset/worried/stressed, I realize how much I have drifted away from the simple things in life that make true happiness. So I just wanted to take this opportunity to recognize my WONDERFUL wife who always pleasantly surprises me by reminding me of the sweet and simple things that truly make me happy. And hopefully these ramblings will help remind someone to "stop and smell the roses" as well.
