Presidential Debates

So the one good thing that came from Jenni's whole sickness thing was that it gave us a chance to watch both the Democratic and Republican debates. And here's my quick thoughts on each of them.

Democratic Debate
I liked Obama a lot more than Hillary in the Democratic debate. I just can't stand Hillary's stupid laugh and it seems like she's saying "Well, Bill was a good president, so that means that I am too", and I just don't buy into that. Obviously, I'd never vote for either of them (the idea of an extra 10-15% of my paycheck being taken away just isn't appealing), but it's still good to hear both sides of the story.

Republican Debate
The surprise of this debate was how much I liked Ron Paul. There's been a pretty big buzz on the internet about him and I had been intrigued by a lot of the stuff I had heard (he's more Libertarian then Republican), but this was the first time I had really heard him speak and I was VERY impressed. With all of McCain's "straight talk" and Romney's "facts" there sure was a LOT of pointless bickering about worthless details. I liked that Ron Paul kept pointing out that McCain and Romney were arguing about policies that they both agreed on and not actually talking about the real core of the issues.

I must admit that if I had to pick between Romney and McCain that I'd pick Romney. I like how he's detailed and actually talks about specifics of what he would do changes things instead of just using buzzwords and talking generalities. Part of me wants to vote for Romney just to try and help him win against McCain, but I just like Ron Paul too much to not let my support be thrown behind him. I guess that's what's killing Romney though (he's losing a LOT of votes to Ron Paul and Mike Huckabee), so we'll just have to see what happens.

A lot of people do seem to like Ron Paul. I like how Ron Paul likes to stay so close to the Constitution, but there are other things that I don't particularly agree with him on. It's interesting that the porn industry has endorsed Ron Paul.

I could be incorrect, but I don't believe Ron Paul has won a single state so far. From what I've read, he doesn't appear to have much chance at winning the nomination. So, you might consider throwing your support behind Romney if you dislike McCain since McCain is much more likely to win the nomination than Ron Paul.

Yeah, thats just it. Its people like that that are killing Romney. There is no chance for Ron Paul, so you may as well help Romney and not pull those votes from him. It only helps McCain in the long run. Rumor has it that McCain has promised Huckabee a VIP spot if he does not drop out of the running. McCain knows that if Huckabee stays in the race, it just hurts Romney. Anyway, how can you not vote for Romney. He is clearly the best runner. I know he is not perfect, but thats just it, none of them are. Anyway, I am off my soap box now.

I didn't know that the porn industry was such a big supporter of Ron Paul. I imagine it's just because of his Libertarian type of views, but that's definitely kind of odd.

As much as the conspiracy theory sounds interesting, there's no deal between McCain and Huckabee. If you watch any of Huckabee's comments in the recent debate, you can tell that he still believes that he's a viable candidate and plans on putting up a fight.

Ya, Ron Paul has absolutely no chance of winning, so I would basically just be "making a statement". I'm just torn between making a statement I believe in and voting for the lesser of two evils, so we'll just have to wait and see how I feel on Tuesday.

OK, so I went back and checked my sources, and apparently I was a bit confused--it's actually some people in the brothel business here in NV that support Ron Paul. In any case, he does seem to attract certain groups that seem less savory to me.
