Sedona, AZ 2009

For the week after Christmas, we went to Sedona, AZ to hang out with my family. The first big experience that we did was supposed to be an "easy hike", but we decided that instead of just walking up to the base of Cathedral Rock (more info here), we went all the way up to the saddle. Jenni and my Mom were about to kill me and my Dad the whole time because "Charlie's life was at risk", but no major injuries occurred and we got to see some good scenery in the process. I don't know if I would recommend taking a 20 month old, but apparently it's doable and I would recommend the hike to anyone without small children.  My Dad did quite a good job carrying the 30 pounder most of the way.  Especially for a soon to be Senior Citizen.

The next day was my Mom's birthday and we had planned on going to some Indian Ruins or do another less challenging hike, but a few people weren't feeling well and so we just took it easy and hung out. We checked out some local shops, ate Chinese food, and then sang happy birthday. The highlight of the day for Charlie was taking a bath with Grandpa and throwing bubbles everywhere.

The next day we went for a hike on the West Fork Trail (more info here). The description said that we would have to cross a river and I eased Jenni's concerns by saying it was definitely dried up, but that turned out to not be true and we had to "pioneer it" and cross the frozen river. Charlie was unsure about the snow, because he would run into, get stuck, and then ask for help to get out. The one thing that he did love was playing in the water and throwing rocks with Grandpa. We had to literally rip the guy away from it and it was good that we had a package of fruit snacks or the way back would have been full of lots of screaming.

So that's the first part of our adventures in Sedona. We've had lots of fun so far and I'm sure the next part will be even more fun.

We went to Sedona right after we got married and stayed in the same hotel I think - our room had the same crazy pink tub. :) What a fun place to go visit!
